In 1897, the Washburn Shops foundry enabled students to work with the materials needed in modern industry. In 2014, Diana Lados, associate professor of mechanical engineering, is researching manufacturing processes for light composite materials to build more fuel-efficient vehicles. True to its mission, WPI research helps the competitiveness of American manufacturers.
