WPI’s 16th president, Laurie A. Leshin, describes WPI as “a technological university with a human heart and a global reach.” WPI did not become that overnight, which is why its history is particularly fascinating. Some institutions revere their past so much that they almost seem frozen in time.Others are constantly reinventing themselves, and the past has little relevance.
There are threads in WPI’s history that continue to shape its culture, programs, and achievements—similar to understanding elements and actions in the universe that help us discover more about who we are.
And, more important, what we might become.
Discover these threads through time, and let us know of other important hallmarks you think we should highlight in this living history. Submit your story to sesqui@wpi.edu.
